I belive what happened is you inadvertantly did a new install, but on the same partition as your Win98 install. So in effect, you have a new install of XP that Fortuneately, I saved all my really inportant files on a CD before I installed XP, but I tried to use the Wizard transfer and that didn't seem to work.

Test things a bit, and if they seem to work fine, you can use /dev/ad0s2a as your root and /usr partitions until you have a chance to install a NO_BIND world

But it seem to work fine on my machine. They do support DB2 on RH8. I would update to DB2 8.1 FP2 which is now available. But make sure you read the readme files and follow all post install steps.
