install seemed work but

install seemed to work BUT??????

Install for vista seemed to work ok but after restart and boot up, I just get a Black screen with the mouse cursor showing and the windows vista build number at the bottom right of the screen, nothing else... Anyone any ideas.... Thanks...

What are the specs for your computer? I have: Asus A8V-E SE mobo ATI Radeon X850 XT PCI-E x16 AMD 64 X2 4800+
I got the same problem going on, seems to be a problem with video card or motherboard, not sure yet. I boot into safe mode, go to device manager and uninstall my graphics card. I then reinstall my graphics card while still in safe mode. I use the ATI vista beta drivers downloaded from the ATI website. If this isn't the case for you try to let vista install the default drivers. I then restart my computer and Vista will work. Aero works, everything works except my secondary S-video output. The only problem is if you shut down and restart the problem comes back and you must go back into safe mode uninstall and reinstall to get back in. I've read that using the hybernate or sleep or whatever it's called now works, but I've got a dual boot system and I need to get into my XP, so I have to shut down sometimes. If that doesn't work, try it the same way, but install the regular VGA drivers while in safe mode. You won't get the good resolution or the aero effects, but you might be able to get into vista. Sorry if this doesn't fix you're problem, but I say it's worth a try.

There is a bug in your newsreader that makes you think your posts are failing when they are not.

I and countless others have had the "Vista Black Screen of Death". I found out the hard way, the correct way to install Vista is to boot up and install on a primary HD/Partition and you will not have any problems. Vista does not like any Windows drivers at all, you can not upgrade to Vista Beta.
